Amate Bark Painting

     In the in the state of Guerrero, the technique of Amate bark painting has been passed down from one generation to the next. Made by the indigenous Nahua community, these beautiful paintings are called Papel Amate after the paper that is handmade from the Jonote tree. Also known as historias, this kind of painting is true folk art, depicting pastoral and urban scenes, festivals and celebrations as well as ordinary daily life.
